Experience
I have been a Registered Midwife for nearly 20 years having started my journey as a nurse in 2000. I have had the privilege of working in the clinical midwifery space in a variety of settings with a particular focus and passion for ‘continuity of midwifery care’ models - including Private Practice Midwifery (Best Life Birth and ATUNE Health Centres, 2014-2018).
I am a passionate advocate for family and have been working to support preparation for birth and parenting with a particular passion for Engaged Fatherhood education and support in the public and private settings.
Most recently (apart from nearly a year working as a painter) I have been engaged as a Clinical Midwifery Educator at the Coffs Harbour Health Campus and as a lecturer and tutor in the Bachelor of Midwifery Program at Southern Cross University (SCU - Coffs Campus).
I’ve also spent more than 16 years supporting Maternity Emergency Education for midwives and doctors in NSW and across Australia with a strong focus on Simulation and debrief (ALSO/AiMS/PiMS/BABE - AMaRE; FONT, Fetal and Maternal Safety Education - NSW Health).
Midwifery Interest
I am a strong advocate for supporting families through the pregnancy, birth and early parenting continuum. As a husband and father of 5 (pre-school to driving age) I have a deep investment in promoting the parenting team and engaged fatherhood.
I value choice and advocacy for families and the provision of evidence-informed care.
I love supporting the passion and skill of developing midwives through ongoing education.
Personal Interest
I love playing music (I'm a very rough guitar player) and singing. I love to hang with my amazing wife and children - particularly at the beach (occasionally I get to surf). I love to build and fix things. I love to cook a crazy amount and variety of vegetables (all the colours!) when preparing a roast or BBQ! I love building a garden and growing things we can enjoy and eat. And I particularly enjoy listening to a podcast or 2 while I clean the kitchen!
