Experience
As an early career midwife, I have been fortunate enough to have spent the last two years working in a nursing and midwifery capacity in Alice Springs. This has nurtured my passion for working with Aboriginal women and families and has fostered a greater capacity to learn and develop within this community. My student years were spent learning within major tertiary hospitals on the East Coast of Australia, and finally, sent me to Mt Isa with the RFDS. The many differences, challenges and opportunities for healthcare access and resources I have been exposed to have set me up, working towards engaging in a diverse and holistic range of experiences within my nursing and midwifery career.
Midwifery Interest
I feel fortunate to have found a passion for a career that offers so much opportunity for development, change, growth, and movement. As a midwife there is space to provide care that is holistic, appropriate and engages in each woman’s needs. Women are supported to be empowered during their childbearing and rearing years, and continuity of care models continue to prove success across clinical, physiological, psychological, and spiritual capacities. I am lucky that I have been able to see continuity of care provision in various ways whilst working in Alice Springs, and I am most looking forward to being a part of a program that offers a known midwife to all First Nations Women. How exciting, that Aboriginal women, have a choice in their maternity care!
Personal Interest
Life is busy with four dogs and a cat! But my partner and I wouldn’t have it any other way… camping, 4WD & road tripping all together.
We have really enjoyed the beautiful Central Australian surrounds. How lucky we are to live within all this natural beauty.
I enjoy staying fit… gym, swimming, and soccer. I love being outside, sunshine fills my cup… and so does ice-cream!
