Experience

I have been a midwife for 35 years working and volunteering in diverse settings in both Australia, and overseas.

Most of my career has been working in Continuity of Midwifery care and carer models, across the continuum of antenatal, labour, birth and postpartum care both in hospital, birth centres, and the home. I have always had a strong passion and commitment to improving options of care for women.

After moving from Sydney to Northern NSW in 2001 to raise my children, I was involved in the introduction of the waterbirth policy and emergency training for midwives around the Health District, I coordinated the GP/ Midwifery shared care program at Mullumbimby Hospital and had a small private midwifery practice from 2002-2010.

In 2009 I was a project development midwife for the first midwifery group practice (MGP) in Northern NSW at Lismore, and then worked as a Clinical Midwifery Specialist in the Mullumbimby and Byron MGP’s and was a midwifery mentor for other midwives when setting up the first Publicly Funded Homebirth Programs in the area.

I was the clinical facilitator for the Southern Cross University Bachelor of Midwifery Students at Mullumbimby and Byron hospitals from 2010-2022 and facilitated reflective group supervision for the midwifery students in Northern NSW and more recently students and new graduate midwives in Alice Springs.

In 2022 I moved to Central Australia with the aim to work in a continuity of carer model to improve outcomes for First Nation’s Women and joined the Alukura My Midwives MGP in November 2023.

Midwifery Interest

I feel very lucky to have found a profession that I still have so much passion and enthusiasm for after 35 years. In line with My Midwives’ philosophy, I believe that every woman should have access to safe, woman-centred, Continuity of Midwifery Care from a known midwife.

As a midwife I love to work in the full scope of practice offering, holistic, individualised care and building strong trusting relationships with women and their families . I value being able to support women to come into their full power during this important and profound rite of passage into motherhood.

I have a strong interest and commitment in improving midwifery care options and outcomes for First Nation’s Women and babies.

I also love working alongside students and younger midwives to help them find their passion and understanding of the benefits of Continuity of Care to strengthen and build the midwifery workforce for the future.

Personal Interest

I love being in nature, walking, swimming and camping. Spending time in places of natural beauty fills my soul.

I am very social and love being in the company of my family and friends. I have a beautiful supportive partner of 30 years Ian, and adult children, Romy and Oscar.

I also enjoy dancing, singing, live music, exploring my creative side - cooking, knitting, ceramics and weaving and engaging in the community in which I live.
