Experience
I have been a Midwife since 2004, I was successful at time to be selected to undertake the Inaugural Bachelor of Midwifery Direct Entry which was a huge achievement due to the high amount of interest.
I completed my Graduate year at Gawler Hospital Country South Australia an experience I am extremely grateful. As this was the first time that midwives had been educated in Australia this way it was meet with mixed feelings within the medical field and the community.
Due to family commitments l commenced my career at Women’s and Children’s Hospital in North Adelaide 2007 a large Tertiary Hospital with approximately 5000 births a year and continued my employment within this service until 2025. I worked across the continuum of pregnancy, including Antenatal, Intrapartum, Postnatal, Antenatal and Gynaecology and Special care nursery before settling into Midwifery Group Practice. As a part of Midwifery Group practice, I have been involved in Public Funded Homebirth, being involved with women and families in this model has been extremely rewarding professionally.
During my employment with Women’s and Children’s Hospital I have had the opportunity to work Remote QLD as Clinical Outreach Midwife in a continuity model for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Women. As the solo Midwife alongside a Health Worker, we would fly to community to provide the care needed. This model or care included Antenatal, Intrapartum and Postnatal care. Building and growing these relationships with the communities has been a huge privilege.
I have also had the opportunity to volunteer in a third world country teaching safe birthing skills an opportunity that was hugely eye opening with a new found respect for Women and their strengths and strong family connections.
Midwifery Interest
Providing Midwife led continuity of care is my passion as a midwife. This model of care has been recognised as gold standard care for Mothers and babies as well as us as midwives to work to our full scope. I have a strong belief that all women and families have the access to all models of care to provide the care that is individualised to the needs of the women and her family to provide the care that empowers the women in one of the most sacred times in her life.
Personal Interest
The most important part of my life are my three children and my little dog Daisy. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. On my down time I enjoy walking, pottery, weaving and painting and drinking the odd coffee.
