Information

‘It takes a village to raise a child’ and Community spirit is strong in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) where I live with my husband, four beautiful children, two cheeky dogs and two fun loving cats. We are linked to so many Mparntwe ‘villages’ who provide us with acceptance, wisdom and strength. From our work and school communities to the running and walking club, from the community choir to the Dreamers netball team, we enjoy being truly immersed in this vibrant and accepting community.

education of employee

Education

After completing an undergraduate Nursing degree in 1997 in regional NSW, I worked in tertiary and regional hospitals before heading overseas working and experiencing diverse cultures and settings. On return to Australia, I commenced a Graduate Diploma of Midwifery in 2003 and have continued to refine my midwifery skills thanks to the wisdom and support of colleagues, women, and communities.

experience of employee

Experience

My midwifery clinical experience spans 20 years working in regional and remote settings from New South Wales to my current home in the Northern Territory (NT). I’ve thrived in my acute and primary maternity care work, predominantly Midwifery Group Practice for the last 13 years.

midwifery interest of employee

Midwifery Interest

I am actively involved in the NT Australian College of Midwives Branch, representing both Mparntwe and the Northern Territory in roles including, Alice Springs representative, NT Branch Vice President, NT Branch Chair, and NT Council member.

I enjoy the opportunity to support our remote workforce, facilitating on the Maternity Emergency courses for CRANA plus - the peak professional body for rural and remote health professionals. This takes me to amazing places where I get to meet dedicated professionals from all over Australia each year.

I have embraced this privilege to work with Congress Alukura and My Midwives establishing a model of primary maternity care that aligns with my philosophy of woman-centred care, choice for women and Cultural Safety.

I believe the new Alukura/My Midwives MGP service will optimise all these areas for First Nations women in Central Australia.
